GOALS

Sustainability by Design aims to measurably increase the Vancouver region’s progress toward sustainability, and to share our progress with the world.

How will we achieve this goal? Through a collaboratively developed vision of what sustainable cites and communities in the Greater Vancouver region would look like in the decades ahead. We will engage municipal officials, researchers, citizens and local stakeholders to arrive at an achievable consensus based vision for a sustainable region – a regional scale vision comprised of neighbourhood, district, and municipal scale solutions.

We will launch education events, case studies, design charrettes, exhibits, publications and ongoing research to apply and promote that vision. Both the product and the process of this collaborative vision will be shared with the world at the UN World Urban Forum and as part of a sustainable region legacy for the 2010 Olympics.

We invite all citizens in the region to join us. We can together continue the legacy of the previous generations who have helped make the Vancouver region the world’s most liveable. Our challenge, in this generation, is to make it the world’s most sustainable.
